La Tremblade

But where exactly is La Tremblade? Perhaps you’ve already taken the bridge over theIle d’Oléron? Continue in the direction of Royan. You’ll pass along the Pertuis de Maumusson, crossing the river Seudre. La Tremblade is a must-see town in the Charente-Maritime region. It lies right on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, on the Presqu’île d’Arvert. A natural region of Charente-Maritime, the Arvert peninsula is bordered by the Gironde estuary and the Seudre estuary. This part of the Pays Royannais is densely wooded, especially on the coast, where it is home to the state forest of La Coubre. La Tremblade is one of the main oyster-farming sites in the Marennes-Oléron basin. The oyster-farming port of La Grève is Europe’s leading oyster-producing basin! Made famous by its green oysters bred in “claires” (maturing basins). In summer, with its colorful huts, the little port offers an original spectacle.

La Coubre lighthouse

Be careful, it’s one of the most beautiful tourist attractions of your stay ! It towers 63 metres above the town and the Coubre forest. Its white and red colors are instantly recognizable from afar. The Coubre lighthouse is also one of the most powerful lighthouses in Charente-Maritime. Its light can be seen 45 km offshore. Built to prevent numerous shipwrecks on this part of the coast, it was automated in 2000. The most courageous will climb the 300 steps required to admire an exceptional panorama. Between Oléron, the Gironde estuary and the surrounding towns, you won’t know where to turn.

Ronce-les-Bains

The tourist district of La Tremblade, Ronce-les-Bains is a small, family-friendly seaside resort. With its sandy beaches, villas, shops and restaurants, casino and nautical base, this part of town is very lively in summer. If you feel like it, get on your bike for a family outing. The resort is crossed by the Vélodyssée. This long cycle path leads through the forest to Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. Just magnificent.
